Laurian Taler was born in 1940 in Brașov, Romania, where he studied and later also taught at the "Andrei Saguna" National Collegiate and where he started to play in bands, first as a drummer, then as a saxophone and clarinet player. He
studied Biology at the University "Al.I.Cuza" in Iasi, where he also
played in folk and pop bands and occasionally at different commercial
venues. Between
1964 and 1975 he
taught Biology and English in Feldioara and Brașov, then
left Romania
in 1976. In Rome, Italy, he worked as technical secretary and industrial trainer in the penicillin industry, before settling in Toronto, Canada in 1978, where he worked in medical biochemistry, then returned to teaching English, French, Biology, Computer Studies. He took courses at University of Toronto, York University, George Brown College.Since retirement from teaching, Laurian Taler focused on songwriting. He produces his own songs, lyrics, cds, videos and graphics. In 2007 he wrote the book, songs and lyrics of an environmental musical for students titled "ONE EARTH". Taler has written the novel L.A.U.G.H. (LOST AMONG UTTERLY GORGEOUS HUMANS), the volume of poetry SAGACITY, three collections of lyrics for his songs ( ALMOST ESSENTIALS, ON A BLADE OF GRASS, UNDER THE BLUE SKY ), a trilingual volume of verses ( SO MANY WORDS ) and
three books in Romanian ( the novel MEMORY DE ZEU, the volumes of
poetry AM ALES and LUMINEAZĂ UNIVERSURI ).
Taler
is working on finishing the novels CORDOBA MIRACLES and Laurian is married since his student years with Minodora, with whom he has two daughters, Xenia and Laura, both successful in the field of arts.
